Wind blows out of WiMAX auction

Italy’s largest alternative telco Wind has withdrawn from the government’s auction of 3.5GHz WiMAX licences, leaving 22 firms bidding for the 35 available concessions. The auction had raised a total of EUR72.3 million (USD106 million) by the close of play on Friday, with the sale set to run until all bidding is exhausted. Telecom Italia, FastWeb and Mediaset are among the contenders for licences.
