Viettel gets thumbs-up for Laos investment

Vietnamese military-owned mobile operator Viettel has received approval from the Vietnam government to invest USD83.77 million to build a telecom network in neighbouring Laos, according to state media. ‘The prime minister has agreed to allow Viettel to start investing USD83.77 million in a telecom project in Laos,’ the Lao Dong newspaper reported. Viettel is the only Vietnamese operator so far to have received permission to invest in Laos. Viettel also holds a GSM licence in Cambodia.
