Belgacom buys Scarlet for EUR185m

Belgacom has announced the acquisition of Scarlet, an infrastructure based telecoms service provider with operations in Belgium, Netherlands and the Dutch Antilles, for EUR185 million (USD270 million). Scarlet offers its international customer base of 180,000 broadband clients a variety of products on a ‘no frills’ basis, a positioning which Belgacom will continue under the Scarlet brand. The completion of the transaction is, amongst other things, subject to approvals from the relevant competition authorities.
