Telecom Italia creates new network management division

14 Feb 2008

Telecompaper reports that Telecom Italia (TI) is creating a new network management division, in an attempt to pre-empt regulatory action forcing it separate its network assets. The new Technology & Operations division will focus on four activities: maintaining and delivering services over the access network infrastructure; technical planning, construction and maintenance of the network; management of network IT systems; and supervision of all group technical infrastructure (real estate and plant) and facilities management. The incumbent said the new division will operate ‘autonomously and separately’ from the group’s commercial activities and ensure more efficient access to the network for both internal and external customers, in line with the market regulator AgCom’s recommendations. The Italian government has proposed legislation giving AgCom the power to impose functional separation.
