T-Mobile USA to roll out 3G by the summer

14 Feb 2008

T-Mobile USA has used the occasion of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona to announce that it will launch commercial 3G services this summer. The chief executive of T-Mobile International, Hamid Akhavan, explained that the planned US launch had been delayed due to ‘spectrum issues’, but would now go ahead in the summer as planned. T-Mobile invested USD4.2 billion in 2006 to more than double its spectrum holding in the top 100 US cities in which it is active. Commercial launch was originally planned by T-Mobile to take place in mid-2007, and most markets were meant to be live by 2008.
