Renewal of wireless concessions won’t come cheap

According to BNamericas, the Ecuadorian government has confirmed that wireless network operators Conecel (better know by its brand name Porta and Telefonica Movile’s Movistar will have to pay a total of USD700 million each to renew their concessions for an additional 15 year term. It is not clear whether the amount will be split equally between the pair. Porta’s licence will expire in August, while Movistar’s runs until November.
