Work is in progress to reinstate a submarine cable linking Qatari capital Doha with the UAE, Qatar Telecom’s (Qtel) Executive Director of Group Communications said yesterday. Quoted by local newspaper The Peninsula, Adel Al Mutawa said that full telecoms services would be restored between the two countries soon, and that circuits on additional routes had already been reinstated. CommsUpdate previously reported that the Qatar-UAE Submarine Cable System went out of service on 1 February between the Qatari island of Haloul and the UAE island of Das, disrupting internet and voice services, possibly due to a power system failure. The breakdown was the fourth such international incident within a week.
