Irish mobile operator O2 has launched a new website dedicated at increasing children’s awareness of safety issues when using their mobile phones. The new site, www.o2.ie/childprotection, is being launched to coincide with Safer Internet Day, which aims to get adults and children thinking and talking about internet safety, reports SiliconRepublic.com. The portal provides information on a number of topics including how to manage web access, how to become an authorised contact on a child’s mobile account and how to control unwanted SMS and spam. It also provides parents with useful advice on how to manage access to social networking sites on a mobile phone. O2’s businesses in the UK, Germany and the Czech Republic have also introduced similar websites under the guidance of the ‘European Framework for Safer Mobile Use by Younger Teenagers and Children’.
