Wireline losses hit Embarq

12 Feb 2008

The US wireline operator Embarq has posted a slight drop in profits and sales for the fourth quarter of 2007, with falling customer numbers blamed for the poor performance. Embarq’s profits fell from USD194 million in Q4 2006 to USD190 million in the three months to end-December 2007. Sales for the period stood at USD1.58 billion, down from USD1.62 billion a year ago. The firm saw wireline customer numbers drop from 6.91 million to 6.47 million during 2007, though retail broadband internet subscriptions climbed from 980,000 to 1.24 million over the same period.
