Mobistar sets sights on Belgacom fixed line customers

Belgian mobile telecoms group Mobistar is redoubling its efforts to take market share from Belgacom by aggressively targeting its larger rival’s fixed line subscribers, writes Thomson Financial citing Mobistar CEO Benoit Scheen. Scheen aims to ‘kill off the fixed line’ by promoting his company’s AtHome product, which allows 40 hours of mobile calls to be made from home for EUR10 per month. Speaking at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona yesterday, the CEO said he stands by the company’s strategy to be the only purely mobile operator in Belgium. Scheen added that 35% of Belgian households no longer possess a fixed line telephone and that a further 28% are prepared to give theirs up if there is a good alternative.
