Porta ticked off over phone rates rounding

7 Feb 2008

According to BNamericas, telecoms regulator Suptel has ordered mobile operator Porta to pay USD27 million for rounding off phone rates paid by users. The watchdog stated that Porta had been charging for an entire minute even when the user had in fact used only part of that minute, a practice that was prohibited almost ten years ago. Porta will have to reimburse users for the extra amount charged, plus interest, based on services provided since 1999
