UPC and Orange combine for quad-play package

6 Feb 2008

The Romanian cable TV operator UPC has formed a partnership with the country’s largest cellular operator by subscribers, Orange, to create a quad-play package of fixed line and wireless phone services, internet access and TV services. The duo has tested quad-play packages in five cities and the wider launch will bring them into competition with two other quad-play providers, RCS&RDS and the joint venture between RomTelecom and Cosmote. Orange Romania’s CEO, Richard Moat, told local newspaper Ziarul Financiar that the partnership will use ‘a series of synergies between Orange and UPC’ but there is no talk of a more long-term deal to combine the companies’ assets.
