Telecom looks to acquire wireless spectrum for WiMAX or cellular

1 Feb 2008

New Zealand’s incumbent fixed line and mobile operator Telecom has submitted an application to the Commerce Commission (CommComm) seeking permission to purchase radio spectrum it provisionally won in an auction late last year. The telco has applied for the 2520MHz-2540MHz and 2640MHz-2660MHz spectrum, which can be used either for cellular or wireless services, through a vehicle calling itself Telecom Leasing Limited, CommComm said. Telecom provisionally acquired the spectrum in an auction conducted by the Ministry of Economic Development.
