Six win TD-SCDMA equipment approval

1 Feb 2008

China has awarded licences to six telecoms equipment vendors – Lenovo Group, LG Electronics, ZTE, Samsung, Hisense Electric and Guagzhou New Postcom – allowing their products to operate on the Chinese homegrown 3G standard TD-SCDMA. The move gives the six the chance to win contracts from China Mobile, which in December said it planned to purchase 30,000 TD-SCDMA handsets and 10,000 data cards for 3G network trials.

China is conducting network trials of TD-SCDMA in ten cities and has vowed to provide 3G services in time for the Beijing Olympics later this year.
