Batelco annual revenues, profits up 25%, 13.6%

Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) made a net profit of BHD101.5 million (USD269.2 million) in 2007, up 13.6% from BHD89.34 million in 2006, on revenues that rose by 25% year-on-year to BHD293.1 million. Net profit in the fourth quarter was BHD23.31 million, up 24.7% on the same period of 2006. After investing BHD26.9 million in CAPEX in Bahrain last year, at the end of December the telco’s domestic customer base reached 668,000 mobile users (up from 605,000 at end-2006), 202,000 fixed lines (194,000) and 72,000 broadband internet users (32,500). The group’s subsidiary in Jordan, Umniah, had signed up 1.2 million cellular customers by 31 December 2007, while its 20%-owned mobile affiliate in Yemen, Sabafon, had over 1.6 million customers at the same date.
