US cellco Sprint Nextel has confirmed that it remains committed to its Nextel Direct Connect push-to-talk (PTT) service which it runs over its iDEN network. The firm’s president and CEO, Dan Hesse, says: ‘Sprint has invested significantly during the past two years and the network is performing at best-ever levels. Customers can expect to see continued investment and the introduction of new handsets to utilise the network’s unique capabilities.’ The company says more than 90 billion PTT connections were completed in 2007, with businesses accounting for the bulk of usage.
