Sprint and Clearwire mull new partnership

30 Jan 2008

The two largest WiMAX spectrum owners in the US, Sprint Nextel and Clearwire, are reported to be resuming their negotiations regarding a possible joint venture. The two firms said last July that they planned to co-market services over their respective networks, though this venture was disbanded just a few months later, with Sprint claiming the tie-up would not have been cost-effective. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal which cites people familiar with the situation, the latest partnership could bring in the likes of chip manufacturer Intel, search engine Google and US retail chain Best Buy. Neither Sprint Nextel nor Clearwire has commented on the speculation.
