Vodacom reports October-December results

As at 31 December 2007, the end of the third quarter of Vodacom Group’s fiscal year, the operator recorded a total of 33 million customers across its networks in South Africa, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho and Mozambique, reflecting a 4.7% increase in the three months since 30 September 2007. Non-South African operations comprised 8.8 million customers, or 26.6% of the total customer base. Year-on-year, revenue for the first three quarters of fiscal 2007/08 increased by 17.3% to ZAR35.7 billion (USD4.99 billion).

In South Africa, Vodacom’s customer base increased by 4.1% since 30 September 2007 to 24.3 million, comprising 3.4 million contract subscribers and 20.7 million pre-paid customers, which increased 0.7% and 4.7% respectively during the third quarter. Outside South Africa, the total customer base rose by 6.3% in the three months to end-December, to 8.8 million. Subscriber growth was achieved in all markets, notably Lesotho (9.9% increase) and Mozambique (11.9% increase).
