Multi-service operator Viettel, owned by the Vietnamese military, is giving new ADSL internet subscribers free internet access for three months in a bid to attract more customers, the company said in a statement. Meanwhile, new subscribers to Viettel’s fixed line telephone service will get their subscription fees waived for six months. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Viettel ended the third quarter of 2007 with an estimated 200,000 fixed line subscribers and a similar number of broadband users. Its main business is mobile telephony, having more than eight million subscribers at the same date.
