Orange to launch French satellite TV service

France Telecom’s Orange unit plans to launch a French satellite TV service within the next few weeks, Les Echos reports without citing sources. The telco is looking to offer the service to broadband customers who are unable to access TV-over-ADSL for technical reasons, the paper said. Orange is reportedly bidding to secure the rights to offer French Ligue 1 football coverage to users in the period 2008 to 2012. it currently offers pay-TV services through an arrangement with Vivendi’s Canal Plus unit. FT declined to comment on the satellite TV rumour.
