MWEB WiMAX tests to continue

The South African internet service provider MWEB has confirmed that it is proceeding with its trials of WiMAX technology even though its temporary WiMAX licence has now expired, MyBroadband reports. The firm says it is going ahead with the trial with the blessing of the country’s telecoms regulator, ICASA. MWEB is trialling WiMAX technology with 830 users and is hoping to be awarded a full operating concession, but ICASA has been unable to make a decision on whether or not to award a full permit.
