Russia’s largest cellular operator, Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), has announced its subscriber figures to the end of December 2007. The firm had 57.43 million customers across Russia, up from 51.22 million a year earlier. Growth was much slower at the group’s Ukrainian subsidiary, which added just 4,000 net new users in 2007 to end the year with just over 20 million subscribers. In Uzbekistan, MTS saw 1.35 million net additions over the year to end 2007 with 2.8 million customers, while in Turkmenistan its subscriber base grew from 180,000 to 360,000. The newly acquired operation in Armenia had 1.38 million users at end-2007, while the unconsolidated subsidiary in Belarus saw an 18.4% increase in customer numbers to 3.8 million.
