Malta-Italy submarine project is GO

21 Jan 2008

Maltese telco GO (formerly Maltacom) has selected Alcatel-Lucent and Telecom Italia subsidiary Elettra to deploy a new submarine cable between Malta and Italy. The GO-1 Mediterranean Cable System will link St Paul’s Bay in Malta to Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, and will provide capacity of 480Gbps. Scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of this year, GO expects the DWDM-based cable to optimise its delivery of advanced broadband services including fixed and mobile data services, broadband internet access, digital TV, hosting and co-location services. Direct connectivity to existing regional submarine networks in the area will also be enabled, according to Alcatel-Lucent.
