Comstar catches capital customers

Russian fixed line and internet operator Comstar UTS added 228,000 net new broadband subscribers in Moscow in the fourth quarter of 2007, it announced in a statement, bringing its user base in the capital to 695,000 at the end of the year, almost double its end-2006 figure. Growth in 4Q 2007 was nearly five times that in the previous year. 94% of the broadband customer base is residential, and of the 198,000 net new consumers added in 4Q, 66,000 were signed up by Comstar’s regional telco unit Moscow City Telephone Network (MGTS). 97% of the new residential additions chose internet speeds of 1Mbps and above.
