15 Jan 2008

Baltic telco Norby Telecom has announced it has secured a national WiMAX licence in the 2.3GHz frequency band in Estonia. The licence was obtained through the acquisition of another smaller service provider. ‘Holding the licence in 2.3GHz frequency band is very important for us’, said Norby Telecom’s CEO Oleg Shvaikovsky. ‘This helps us to deploy our goal to become a leading WiMAX service provider in Baltic States. We are the first WiMAX provider in 3.5GHz frequency band in the Baltics and this enables us to provide fixed wireless broadband services. 2.3GHz is perfect range for providing mobile WiMAX services, which is our next step in the telecoms market. So now we can provide either fixed or mobile data communication services to our customers.’
