Tele2 Austria deal under scrutiny

14 Jan 2008

Telekom Austria’s proposed USD10 million acquisition of the mobile resale assets of Tele2 Austria has been passed to the country’s federal cartel office (BWB). According to a report from the Austrian Press Agency (APA), the BWB’s initial assessment of the deal concluded that it could have a negative impact on competition in the domestic mobile market. The cartel office now has until May to study the deal. Tele2 Austria had around 130,000 subscribers at the time the deal was announced last October, while Telekom Austria’s cellular subsidiary mobilkom leads the market with more than 3.85 million customers.
