14 Jan 2008

India’s Reliance Communications (RCOM) is reported to be planning an order for 80-100 million GSM lines, according to the Business Standard. The report said RCOM has begun talks with leading equipment vendors including Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent, ZTE, Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia, amongst others, and a meeting of potential suppliers has been called at the end of this week to choose the vendors. It added that the order will be spread over three years and is expected to be finalised over the next few weeks. RCOM was given permission to expand GSM services across all regions last week, under the unified (UASL) licence regime.
