Oger assumes control of Zapp

14 Jan 2008

The Saudi Arabian telecoms investment group Saudi Oger has taken full control of the Romanian cellular operator Telemobil, which offers CDMA-based services under the name Zapp. A report from Romanian news site Hotnews says that Oger has acquired a 50% stake in Telemobil holding company Inquam from the US equipment vendor Qualcomm; Oger already held the other 50% interest in Inquam. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Zapp won a 2100MHz 3G licence in December 2006 but has yet to launch commercial services using its 3G spectrum; it currently offers mobile data services over a CDMA-450 network.
