Alvarion and Bridgewater power MSTelcom’s WiMAX service

14 Jan 2008

US-based Alvarion and Canada’s Bridgewater Systems have supplied a WiMAX solution to corporate telecoms provider Mercury Telecommunications Services (MSTelcom) to support IP-based communications in northern Angola. The WiMAX system will support MSTelcom’s current services that include national satellite coverage, broadband services, terrestrial links, internet access, national and international telephony, and radio tracking systems. Bridgewater’s AAA Service Controller is provided as part of Alvarion’s Open WiMAX architecture. According to its website, MSTelcom is part of the Sonangol Group and was licensed in 2003 as a fixed line telecoms network operator – one of four in the country – and since then has been providing fixed telephony services to Sonangol Group and other companies.
