Rumours suggest Unicom split imminent

Shares in China Unicom have jumped on the back of speculation that it will sell its wireless networks to rivals. Unicom shares have surged 30% in the last six months on speculation that Beijing will break up the carrier by selling its GSM and CDMA networks to fixed line operators China Telecom and China Netcom in a bid to increase competition in the world’s largest wireless market by users.
