Nokia, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Antenna Hungaria launch Hungarian DVB-H mobile TV trial

9 Jan 2008

Hungarian TV and radio network operator Antenna Hungaria is teaming up with domestic mobile operators T-Mobile and Vodafone, and equipment vendor Nokia, to jointly launch trial mobile television services based on Digital Video Broadcasting for Handheld (DVB-H) technology. Antenna Hungaria and T-Mobile first launched tests of the platform in Hungary in the spring of 2007. According to portfolio.hu, the current test is being carried out on a Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) platform, with Nokia handsets (N92 and N77) and will continue until the end of January 2008. Antenna Hungaria’s chief executive Jean-Francois Fenech is quoted as saying the Hungarian market is fully prepared for mobile TV. The only barrier that remains is the invitation of frequency tenders, Fenech said, but added that this problem was likely to be solved in the first half of this year.
