U-Verse reaches Illinois

7 Jan 2008

AT&T has announced that it is launching its U-Verse fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service in parts of Illinois, with an expansion into the Chicago metropolitan area planned for the end of the first quarter according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Services were launched in St. Louis in Missouri towards the end of last year and AT&T says it can expand over the Mississippi river into eastern Illinois using the same video unit. U-Verse offers high speed internet and video services alongside traditional fixed line telephony, allowing AT&T to compete with the triple-play offers of cable operators. The FTTH service is now available in 21 markets in eleven states, with 126,000 subscribers at the end of September.
