US wireless services provider MetroPCS, which specialises in offering flat-rate, no contract packages, has signed up a second Chinese handset supplier in the shape of Huawei Technologies. Having successfully concluded a supply deal with ZTE of China in December last year, MetroPCS has now signed a deal with Huawei to make the latter’s M318 handset available to all the cellco’s roughly 3.7 million customers. The new deal will give Huawei a foothold in the US market and also enable Metro to expand its handset range in a busy cellular market.
Last month ZTE USA, a subsidiary of ZTE Corp, announced that it has signed an agreement with the US operator for the supply of its CDMA PCS and AWS handsets. MetroPCS will begin selling ZTE s handsets in stores, this month. The company offers services in the Miami, Orlando, Sarasota, Tampa, Daytona, Melbourne, Atlanta, Dallas, Detroit, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Sacramento metropolitan areas.
