ZAMTEL to deploy fibre-optic network

2 Jan 2008

The Zambia Telecommunications Company (ZAMTEL) has announced investment of USD1.2 million on a fibre-optic cable network for metropolitan Lusaka, the country’s capital. The telco’s managing director, Simon Tembo, told journalists that the rollout is expected to be completed before the end of January, and that other parts of the company’s telecoms network would be upgraded on a gradual basis. Zamtel has suffered in the past from copper cable theft, which it claims has caused it to incur huge financial losses.
