Bolivian cellco NeuvaTel, which operates under the Viva brand, expects to expand its customer base by 50% in 2008. Diego Gutierrez, vice president for marketing, speaking with BNamericas, revealed that the cellco finished 2007 with 950,000 subscribers, approximately 93% of which were pre-paid users. He added that that percentage is likely to grow in 2008 as the company achieves greater penetration in the lower income segments. Neuvatel experienced a considerable increase in mobile traffic following the government’s introduction of per second billing in March 2007, and Gutierrez stated that the cellco had to invest in capacity expansion to support the growing traffic. For the whole of 2007 it spent USD30 million on network improvements, up from USD27 million the previous year.
