Tele2 Croatia awarded new GSM frequencies

21 Dec 2007

Tele2 Croatia has been awarded an additional 10MHz of GSM-900 mobile spectrum in the EGSM (extended global system for mobile communication) frequency band, which is within the range 880MHz-890MHz paired with 925MHz-935MHz. The spectrum, available as of 17 December, will cost Tele2 around USD487,000 in annual frequency fees. Johnny Svedberg, Tele2 Market Area Director Baltic, Russia & Croatia, said: ‘The new 900MHz EGSM frequency in Croatia will allow us to enhance network coverage, reduce capital expenditure as well as improve our price position in the market. Together with the new roaming agreement [with nationwide GSM operator T-Mobile Croatia], effective from 1 June 2008, the 900MHz frequency will enable Tele2 to significantly improve the operational performance of its Croatian business.’
