20 Dec 2007

Albtelecom has selected Huawei as its main equipment vendor for the construction of a GSM-based network for its wholly owned subsidiary Eagle Mobile, writes Cellular News. According to the terms of the agreement Huawei will construct a complete 3G-ready network, which is expected to begin commercial operations in March 2008.

Earlier this year a 76% stake in Albtelecom was sold to Turkish consortium Calik Enerji Telekom for EUR120 million (USD144 million); the remainder is state-owned. Turk Telekom has a 20% interest in Calik Enerji Telekom.
