Chunghwa expects MOD sales to reach TWD1bn in 2008

Taiwan’s dominant fixed line operator, Chunghwa Telecom, says it is expecting revenues of TWD1 billion (USD30.8 million) from its Multimedia On Demand (MOD) fibre network in 2008. MOD was recently relaunched as an open platform, meaning any broadcaster can use the network to provide services, with Chunghwa charging for wholesale access. Chunghwa says it is currently negotiating with other media firms to increase the amount of on-demand content available via the MOD platform. Potential partners include the Asia 1 Entertainment DVD rental chain, which aims to offer newly released films on MOD as soon as they are available to buy on DVD, DigiTimes reports.
