IIJ to launch corporate data MVNO venture with DoCoMo

17 Dec 2007

Japanese internet access and network solutions provider, Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ), has signed a preliminary deal with the country’s leading mobile network operator NTT DoCoMo to use the latter’s 3G FOMA network to deliver corporate data communications services. IIJ will be the first company to sign a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) deal to use DoCoMo’s 3G network which is supported by HSDPA technology. Details of the actual business plan are still under discussion, but IIJ is looking to offer corporate customers mobile internet access at speeds of up to 3.6Mbps, starting in January 2008. IIJ also plans to provide comprehensive outsourcing services for mobile data communications, including mobile data-communications terminals, network and data-centre management and system maintenance, it said in a statement.
