Russian fixed line and broadband provider Comstar UTS and technology developer Intel have announced a collaboration to develop mobile WiMAX systems based on the 802.16e standard in Russia. The partnership will initially focus on building a city-wide mobile WiMAX network in Moscow, with commercial launch slated for late 2008. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Comstar was granted spectrum in the 2.5GHz to 2.7GHz range in January 2007 and is already operating a trial WiMAX network in the capital.
