Congress approves motion to open fixed line sector

10 Dec 2007

Costa Rica’s special congressional committee on telecoms has approved a motion to open up the fixed line sector despite heavy lobbying from state-owned incumbent Grupo ICE, reports BNamericas citing local newspaper Diario Extra. The motion is part of a bill to restructure the country’s telecoms system in preparation for liberalisation of mobile and internet services. Some members of congress have submitted a separate motion to try to reverse the decision however.
