B&B mull plans to split eircom in four

10 Dec 2007

The Australian owners of Irish former monopoly fixed line operator eircom, Babcock and Brown Capital (B&B), are considering a plan to separate the company into up to four operational units. Under the plan, the incumbent could be split into a network operation for wholesale customers, a retail business for domestic and mobile users, and a retail arm for business customers. A fourth division could be created by spinning off the Meteor Mobile unit from the rest of the retail arm. B&B’s new idea is a development of its earlier proposal to sell off the retail business while retaining control over eircom’s wholesale operations.
