BNamericas, quoting local news service Agencia Estado, reports that Claro has launched a commercial 3G network in the metropolitan and greater Sao Paulo areas, following an initial launch last month in capital Brasilia, other parts of the federal district, and Recife, Fortaleza and Porto Alegre. The America Movil-owned cellco expects to launch next generation services in the Rio de Janeiro and two other cities in Rio state in the next few days. Swedish vendor Ericsson and Chinese equipment manufacturer Huawei provide Claro’s W-CDMA/HSDPA network, operating in the 850MHz band.
