MTS goes with Ericsson for 3G

4 Dec 2007

Russia’s largest cellular operator, Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), has selected Ericsson to supply its 3G and 3.5G network equipment. Under the contract, Ericsson will deliver a turnkey solution including 3G/HSPA core and radio access network equipment, network management system hardware and software plus a range of professional services such as network deployment, systems integration, operation, technical support and training. MTS and its two main rivals Vimpelcom and MegaFon were awarded 3G licences in April this year. The following month MTS said it would be working with Nokia on its initial 3G deployments in the Moscow region. MTS is expected to launch its first next generation services in the second half of next year.
