4 Dec 2007

Brazilian fixed line and mobile operator Brasil Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent to supply it with an IP/MPLS solution as the core backbone for the first converged, nation-wide network in Brasil. Alca-Lu will deploy its IP/MPLS equipment consisting of the 7750 Service Router, 7450 Ethernet Service Switch and 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM) in main cities across 14 states in Brazil. The vendor will also provide network integration services, including network optimisation, system support and general project management in nine states where Brasil Telecom operates, including the Federal District. The new IP/MPLS platform will enable the telco to deliver a suite of fixed and mobile residential broadband services, as well as business VPN services from a single platform. The exact details of the ‘multi-million Euro contract’ were not disclosed.
