Gamtel’s new board inaugurated

3 Dec 2007

A new executive board of Gambia Telecommunications Company (Gamtel) has been inaugurated by Neneh Macdouall-Gaye, secretary of state for Communications and Information Technology. The board, which comprises representatives of the government, Gamtel’s new Lebanese owner Spectrum Holding, German management partner DeTeCon International and other private sector individuals, will ‘create diversity and synergy,’ she said. The government sold a 50% controlling stake in national fixed line operator Gamtel and its mobile subsidiary Gamcel to Spectrum in August, attributing the unexpected sale to an urgent need to improve telecoms services.
