Claro and Entel PCS launch video calling

Chilean cellcos Claro and Entel PCS have each launched videocall services, according to statements from both operators, reports BNamericas. Both Claro and Entel operate GPRS/EDGE networks suitable for the service, although Entel has deployed HSDPA which will provide better service quality, as well as additional offerings including mobile digital television and mobile digital radio. Both companies plan to launch the service in Santiago and Vina del Mar. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, at the end of June 2007 Entel PCS and Claro were Chile’s second and third largest cellcos by subscribers, with a 38% and 19.4% share of the market respectively. Leader Telefonica Moviles claimed 42.6%, with Nextel Chile accounting for the remainder.
