Uruguayan cellco CTI Movil, a subsidiary of Mexican giant America Movil, expects to invest USD20 million during 2008 to expand coverage and improve service quality, according to local paper El Pais, quoting the company manager Gabriel Gutierrez. Another officer, Isaac Ribke, said that the operator’s target is to reach one million subscribers by the end of 2008 in the country. TeleGeograpy’as GlobalComms database reveals that the company ended June 2007 with just under 600,000 customers.

CTI launched 3G services earlier this month in the capital Montevideo, following a USD9 million investment. Expansion to the cities of Punta del Este and Colonia is expected in December.
