Embratel unveils USD600mn WiMAX investment

Brazilian long-distance and data services provider Embratel has announced it will invest USD600 million in WiMAX technology between now and March 2008, writes BNamericas citing company sales director Flavio Gomes. According to Gomes, the technology will be available by March in the cities of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Campinas, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Florianopolis, Campo Grande, Brasília, Salvador, Recife and Fortaleza. The operator plans to extend its WiMAX coverage to other state capitals and cities across the country in subsequent rollout phases, the director said. Embratel plans to target both corporate and residential users.
