Pan-African cellco Celtel International, part of Kuwait’s Zain Group (formerly MTC Group), has announced that it has expanded its free international roaming service to cover an area stretching from the east to west coasts of Africa. ‘One Network’ now includes Celtel’s GSM networks in six additional countries: Burkina Faso, Chad, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria and Sudan. This raises to twelve the number of countries included in One Network, which already incorporates Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, the Congo (Republic), the Congo (DRC) and Gabon, and was originally launched in September 2006. Celtel’s pre- and post-paid customers can make calls and send SMS at local rates in all One Network countries, and receive incoming calls free of charge. They can also top up pre-paid phones with locally-bought airtime cards.
